Here are details of various projects that we are running or involved in. We are interested in receiving proposals for participation in these projects, as well as for new projects.

RECIPROCATE:

RECIPROCATE is a residency project aiming to aid the building of networks between emerging artists around the country  and ourselves.  The project works in two parts; a 2 week residency at The Lombard Method, with the option of a final exhibition, event or presentation at the end,  and a reciprocal hosting of The Lombard Method (or  individual members of) in the hometown of the resident artist.  The exchange could be as simple as direct swap of work space and time, or could be more inventive, such as making a publication, starting a collaboration etc.  The focus is as much about discovering new towns, cities and artist activity as creating or developing new work.  The residency is open to both individual artists and art collectives.

The resident artist/s will get open access to The Lombard Method, where they will have free reign of one or both of the project spaces, use of the workshop facilities and free accommodation.  Unfortunately we cannot offer a fee, but we hope this project to run in the spirit of ‘exchange’.  During the 2 weeks, the resident artist/s will be able to develop their own work in the project spaces to whatever end gain they wish.  It may be making new work for a final exhibition, day event, presentation etc, or developing old work in a new environment.  We will endeavor to take you around Birmingham and introduce you to the various other artistic activities and local artists, familiarise you with the area and hopefully show you a good time!

The second part of the project is to be organised by the resident artist/s and can be as simple or elaborate as is possible, however the proposed exchange will be looked at as well as the residency proposal  when deciding on submissions.

This is one approach to residencies in our space, aiming to be a fairly quick, informal way of interacting with other artists whilst still having enough space and focused time to make a fairly concise project.  If you are interested in any other kind of residency or project, please look at our ‘Proposals’ page for more details of how to apply and what we can offer.

If you are interested in applying, please email a proposal (max 300 words) of your intentions in our space, a brief description (max 300 words) of your intentions for our visit, up to 7 images of work or previous projects (max size 5Mb total) or a web link, and CV if applicable to thelombardmethod@googlemail.com
